While a number of doctors from the United States volunteer their time to the Nevis Eye Care Program, the team led by Dr. Foote focuses on cataract and glaucoma care. A local patient described it this way: "The Nevis Eye Care Program is an important and valuable service provided to us on Nevis that do not have the financial means to pay for surgical procedures…."

Dr. Weis saw patients before and after their surgeries with Dr. Foote. "The highlight," Dr. Weis described, "was just seeing how well our patients have done over the past 10 years or so." Dr. Foote’s team has developed a reputation for quality and safety, which has attracted more residents of Nevis to the eye care program.

It is not only the medical result that patients appreciate. The care and empathy expressed by the doctors makes an impact as well. One of Dr. Weis’s patients in Nevis described her experience as very positive, and said her interactions with Dr. Weis revealed him to be "kind, gentle and patient."

"In all, there is increasing evidence that we are making a positive contribution," said Dr. Weis. "People know us, they are happy to see us and we are grateful for the opportunity to help them."
