January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month
(Make a New Year’s Resolution to Make Eye Health a Priority)
Glaucoma is an eye disorder in which the optic nerve suffers damage, permanently impacting vision in the affected eye(s) and progressing to complete blindness if untreated. It is often, but not always, associated with increased pressure of the fluid in the eye (aqueous humour).
In most cases vision loss appears gradually where people do not notice any signs until it has become severe. It’s important to have regular, routine eye exams so that glaucoma can be diagnosed and treated before long term vision loss occurs. Any vision loss from glaucoma cannot be restored.
