The Crystalens™ is the only intraocular lens of its kind. This lens, which made its debut in 2003, is an accommodative lens, which makes it unique among intraocular lenses which provide multifocal vision. Unlike other multifocal lenses on the market (ReSTOR and Tecnis multifocal lenses, among others), the Crystalens™ is a single focus lens which works with your eye’s own muscles in order for you to enjoy vision as you did as a youngster. Crystalens™ has the ability to “accommodate,” or flex, allowing it to focus on distant, intermediate, and near objects. The patented hinged design enables the lens to actually change position to focus at whatever distance your eye is looking.
Crystalens™ can be implanted at the time of cataract removal or during elective “refractive lens exchange” surgery. This lens could reduce your reliance upon glasses or contact lenses. It has the ability to deliver excellent vision at far and intermediate distances, with some patients even achieving good reading vision without glasses. If you are interested in refractive surgery but have been told you are not an ideal patient for LASIK, the Crystalens™ intraocular lens might be a good option for you. Individuals over the age of 40 are typically the best candidates for a refractive lens exchange with the Crystalens™.
If you would like to know more about the Crystalens™ or refractive lens exchange surgery, please feel free to fill out our contact us form, and one of our staff will contact you. The doctors at Milwaukee Eye Care Associates will thoroughly diagnose your vision problems and then educate you on all available specialty lens options prior to making a decision about surgery.
