The History of Milwaukee Eye Care
The Milwaukee East Side office building, located at 1684 N. Prospect Ave., was constructed in the 1880s as a private residence overlooking Lake Michigan. It continued to be a private home until the 1940s.
In 1946 Dr. Raymond Warner purchased the building. After extensive remodeling, Dr. Warner opened an eye clinic in early 1947. The building has been used for eye care since that time.
Trained as an Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat specialist at the University of Michigan, Dr. Warner was the first physician in eastern Wisconsin to limit his practice to care and treatment of eyes beginning in 1933. He specialized in the surgical treatment of strabismus in children and cataract surgery.
Optometrist, Dr. Charles Ries joined Dr. Warner’s practice in 1956. In 1974 Dr. Ries limited his practice to contact lenses and continued to practice here until his retirement in December of 2014.
Our Ophthalmologists & Optometrists
Milwaukee Eye Care has a rich history of providing excellent eye care to the community. Dr. Peter Foote, who joined our practice in 1983, has been a pioneering force in the field of ophthalmology. After completing his ophthalmology training at the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison, he quickly established himself as one of the first LASIK surgeons in the Milwaukee area. His expertise in cataract surgery has also made him a renowned figure in the field.
Under Dr. Foote’s leadership, Milwaukee Eye Care expanded its reach and added locations in Bayside, Brookfield, and Franklin Wisconsin, ensuring that our high-quality care is easily accessible to patients across the area. In 2023, Dr. Foote decided to retire, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional patient care and innovation.
Your Primary Eye Care Team
Continuing our commitment to excellence, we welcomed Dr. Jay Heilmann and Dr. David Weis to the Milwaukee Eye Care family over twenty years ago. In 2022, we were thrilled to bring on board two exceptional optometrists, Dr. Anna Hetzer and Dr. Katharine Denius.
Our optometrists have been invaluable assets to our practice, utilizing their extensive knowledge and experience to provide comprehensive eye exams and expert contact lens fittings. Furthermore, they excel in managing and treating various medical eye conditions, working closely with our surgeons to ensure seamless pre and post-operative care.
Your Eye Surgeons & Specialists
Milwaukee Eye Care is led by Dr. Jason Edmonds, Dr. Nicholas Frame, and Dr. Mackenzie Sward, our skilled and dedicated surgeons who are passionate about providing exceptional eye care.
Jason N. Edmonds, M.D. specializes in cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery. He performs partial and full thickness corneal transplants and manages ocular surface disease.
Nicholas J. Frame, M.D. specializes in cataract surgery and the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. He performs traditional glaucoma surgeries as well as newer, minimally invasive procedures.
Mackenzie M. Sward, M.D. specializes in cataract surgery and the medical management of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, eyelid disorders, and glaucoma.
In 2023, we welcomed oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Michael Murphy to our team. Michael L. Murphy, M.D. specializes in oculoplastic surgery. He performs eyelid, brow, orbital, conjunctival, and lacrimal surgeries. He also provides non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments.
