Mackenzie M. Sward, MD

Mackenzie M. Sward M.D. Cataract Surgeon MilwaukeeMackenzie M. Sward, M.D. is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who treats cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, eyelid disorders, and glaucoma.
 
Dr. Sward is from Minnesota and graduated with honors from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she earned undergraduate degrees in both Chemistry and Math as well as doing medical mission work in Tanzania, Africa. She then attended medical school at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis where she was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. During medical school she served as president of the Student Sight Savers Association and organized many free community eye screenings. During this time she also participated in research on macular degeneration at the Mayo Clinic and on genetic eye diseases at the University of Minnesota. Her medical internship was done in Milwaukee at Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Loyola University in Chicago, where she served as Chief Resident. In addition to excellent training in cataract surgery she has also treated hundreds of patients with macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease using retina and vitreous therapies. Dr. Sward is particularly interested in treatments for macular degeneration, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, medical and cosmetic eyelid surgery, and laser surgery for glaucoma and diabetic eye disease.
 
Dr. Sward is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
 
She and her husband, who is from the Milwaukee area, love the outdoors and are avid hikers, campers, and rock climbers. They also enjoy traveling, running, and spending time with their young daughter.
