Eating For Your Eyes

Girl with VeggiesIt’s that time of year again, when everyone is getting fit and losing that last five pounds before summer hits. While you are getting in shape and watching your weight, how about eating to keep your peepers healthy? There are certain foods that are not only good for your whole body, but especially good for your eyes.

Check it out:

Carrots are rich in beta carotene which your body converts into vitamin A. Vitamin A strengthens the retina and promotes better night vision.

Kale & spinach (and pretty much all green veggies) contain vitamins called lutein and zeaxanthin. Both reduce your risk for age related macular degeneration.

Oranges and eggs also contain a fair share of lutein and zeaxanthin, so if you are not into green leafy vegetables, these healthy choices will help reduce the risk for age related macular degeneration as well.

Nuts contain vitamin E, which helps slow the progression of problems like cataracts & macular degeneration.

Salmon, tuna & sardines are very high in omega 3 fats, which are very helpful in reducing and treating dry eyes.

So keep up the good work. Summer is right around the corner. Lets make sure we do our part to not only look great but SEE all the beauty that summer has to offier!
